Overview
South Africa is the most developed digital commerce market in sub-Saharan Africa. The payment landscape is card-first but debit-led: debit cards account for the largest share of e-commerce volume, ahead of credit, reflecting high banking penetration alongside significant credit constraints for a large portion of the population.
A2A payments via Ozow and Capitec Pay are growing rapidly. The market is heavily domestic — one of the most locally-concentrated in the EBANX Africa portfolio.
