Costa Rica is a card-dominant market with growing e-commerce adoption. Credit and debit cards together account for the majority of transaction volume. Digital buyer penetration is high for Central America, with strong demand for international platforms in SaaS, online education, and travel.
Local alternative payment infrastructure is still developing beyond cards.
Available payment methods
Costa Rica supports the following payment methods through EBANX. For detailed integration guides, select a payment method from the sidebar or visit the API Operability page.
- Cards: Credit Cards, Debit Cards
- Cash & Codes: USDC, USDT
Customer document
Accepted type: CN (Cedula Nacional). The document field is optional for card payments.

Refunds
- Refunds for credit and debit card payments are sent to the card acquirer.
- Costa Rica does not currently support alternative payment methods, so no bank transfer refund details are required.
