Overview

Peru is one of Latin America's most distinctive payment markets. The defining characteristic is debit card dominance: debit accounts for the largest share of e-commerce volume, ahead of credit, reflecting a large formally employed but credit-constrained population.

PagoEfectivo — Peru's unique payment aggregator connecting consumers to their banks via codes — holds a significant share, operating as a hybrid between A2A and cash-code flows. Yape, BCP's mobile wallet, has grown rapidly to become the preferred digital payment for younger consumers. Cross-border demand is driven by international SaaS and gaming platforms.
