# Overview

Chile is one of Latin America's most banked and digitally mature markets, with high digital buyer penetration and steady e-commerce growth.

The defining payment characteristic is debit dominance: debit cards account for a significant share of e-commerce volume, closely matching credit card usage — a pattern that reflects Chile's high banking penetration and consumer preference for spending within existing balances. A2A payments via WebPay and bank transfer are growing, and Mercado Pago has a meaningful but smaller footprint compared to other Latin American markets.

### Customer document
Accepted type: RUT (Rol Unico Tributario). The <code>document</code> field is optional but recommended for reconciliation.

| RUT | Numeric with verification digit (e.g., 9882884-2) | Unique Tax Identification Number. Used for both individuals and businesses. |
### Currency and settlement

### Refunds

- Refunds for credit and debit card payments are sent to the card acquirer.

Bank transfer refunds require the following customer banking details:

| Account type | Savings or checking |
| Account number | Bank account number |
| RUT | Customer's tax identification number |
| Account holder name | Name of the bank account holder |
