# Overview

Brazil is the largest digital commerce market in Latin America. The market is defined by two dominant payment rails: Pix — the central bank's instant payment system — and credit cards, which together account for the vast majority of e-commerce volume. Pix adoption has been one of the fastest payment transformations globally, and its recurring variant (Pix Automatico) is actively reshaping the subscription economy. Installments on credit cards remain structurally embedded in consumer behavior, particularly for higher-ticket purchases.

Brazil is a mature market with high digital buyer penetration, but payment method complexity and local infrastructure knowledge remain key conversion levers.

### Available payment methods

### Customer document

> **Alphanumeric CNPJ**
> Starting in July 2026, Brazil's Receita Federal will issue alphanumeric CNPJs. If your integration sanitizes or validates CNPJ documents, you may need to update your code. See the [Alphanumeric CNPJ Support](/docs/pay-in/features/security/cnpj-alphanumeric) guide for details on API changes, validation algorithm, error codes, and best practices.
The
document
field is required.

| Document Type | Format | Description |

| CPF | 11 digits | Individual Taxpayer Registry (Cadastro de Pessoas Fisicas). Used for B2C transactions. |

> **Note:** When
document_type
is omitted, the system infers CPF for 11-digit documents and CNPJ for 14-character documents (numeric or alphanumeric).
